Lex Tempus
Frequently Asked Questions
Time Tracking & Plans
What plans are available?
We offer Free (1 attorney, 5 matters), Solo ($19/mo, unlimited matters), Small Firm ($49/mo, up to 5 attorneys), Growing Firm ($79/mo, up to 10 attorneys), and Large Firm ($129/mo, up to 20 attorneys). All paid plans include unlimited matters, invoice generation, client intake forms, and reporting.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes. You can cancel at any time from your Profile page under Subscription & Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, then reverts to the Free plan. No penalties or hidden fees.
How does the Firm plan work?
The firm plan administrator can invite attorneys by email from the Firm Management page on their Profile. Invited attorneys receive a secure link to create their account and join the firm. The admin can assign matters to specific attorneys, and each attorney only sees matters assigned to them. Seat limits by plan: Small Firm (1 admin + 4 attorneys), Growing Firm (1 admin + 9 attorneys), Large Firm (1 admin + 19 attorneys).
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
You can upgrade at any time via the Pricing page. Downgrading is handled through the Stripe billing portal, accessible from your Profile page under Manage Billing.
Is my billing information secure?
All billing is handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Lex Tempus never stores your credit card information.
Time Tracking & Invoicing
How does time tracking work?
You can log time entries manually on the Dashboard or use the live timer. Each entry is linked to a matter and marked as billable or non-billable. Billable entries are automatically pulled into the Invoice Generator.
How do I generate an invoice?
Go to Invoice in the navigation, select a matter, and all billable time entries and expenses for that matter are automatically loaded into a professional invoice template. You can set a due date, retainer amount, and then print or save as PDF.
Can I track expenses on a matter?
Yes. Each matter has an Expenses section where you can log court filing fees, travel, expert witness costs, and other disbursements. Billable expenses appear as a separate line item on your invoice.
What is the client intake form?
You can create custom intake forms for different practice areas (Family Law, Business, Real Estate, etc.) and share a secure link with clients. Clients fill out the form online and the responses are saved directly to your account, ready to create a new matter.
Digital Business Certificates
Do certificate credits expire?
No. Credits never expire. Purchase once and use them at any time.
What is a permanent clause unlock?
When you purchase a clause for a specific certificate type — for example, Right of First Refusal for LLC — that clause is permanently unlocked for your account for all future LLC certificates. You only pay for a clause once per certificate type.
What format are certificates delivered in?
Certificates are delivered as HTML files. Open in any browser, then Print → Save as PDF. No extra software needed. They are print-ready at any size.
Are the certificates legally valid?
Lex Tempus generates professional documents with appropriate legal language. We recommend having your attorney review certificates for your specific situation. We are a document generation tool, not a law firm.
What types of certificates are available?
We support six entity types: Business Corporation (C-Corp & S-Corp), LLC, Limited Partnership, Limited Liability Partnership, Non-Profit Corporation, and Association/HOA.
Lex Panel-IQ — Jury Management
What is Lex Panel-IQ?
Lex Panel-IQ is a digital jury panel organizer built for trial attorneys. It lets you manage juror seating, track peremptory challenges, record juror notes, log judge details, and visualize your courtroom layout — all in one place, from any device.
Who can use Lex Panel-IQ?
Lex Panel-IQ is available to all attorney accounts (Solo, Small Firm, Growing Firm, and Large Firm plans). It is not available on business/non-legal accounts.
How do panel credits work?
Each jury panel you create costs 1 credit. Credits are purchased separately from your subscription and never expire. Once a panel is created, you can access and edit it as many times as you like — no additional credits are charged.
Do panel credits expire?
No. Panel credits never expire. Purchase once and use them whenever you need them.
What packages are available?
We offer three packages: Single Trial (1 panel credit — $14.99), Standard Pack (3 panel credits — $34.99), and Pro Pack (10 panel credits — $89.99). All packages are one-time purchases with no recurring fees.
Is there a first-purchase bonus?
Yes. Your very first Lex Panel-IQ purchase includes 1 bonus panel credit, automatically added to your account — regardless of which package you choose.
What courtroom layouts are supported?
Lex Panel-IQ supports three layouts: Standard 12 (two rows of 6), Federal 12 (two side-by-side jury boxes of 6), and Civil 6 (single row of 6). You can select the layout when creating a panel.
Can I edit a panel after creating it?
Yes. You can edit panel details (case name, court, trial date, layout), judge information, and individual juror notes at any time. Click the Edit Panel button from the panel view to make changes.
Lex E-Sign — Electronic Signatures
What is Lex E-Sign?
Lex E-Sign is a built-in electronic signature tool. You create a document, paste the text, enter the signer's name, and generate a secure signing link. Send the link to your signer — they read the document, draw or type their signature, check the consent box, and submit. You see the signed status update instantly on your dashboard and can download a signed PDF copy.
Which plans include Lex E-Sign?
Lex E-Sign is available on all paid plans — Solo ($19/mo), Small Firm ($49/mo), Growing Firm ($79/mo), and Large Firm ($129/mo). It is not available on the Free plan.
Does the signer need a Lex Tempus account?
No. Signers receive a secure link and sign directly in their browser on any device — desktop, tablet, or phone. No account, no download, and no login required on their end.
How can the signer sign?
Signers have two options: Draw — they sign with their mouse or finger in the signature box. Type — they type their full legal name, which is rendered in an italic signature font. Both methods are legally equivalent electronic signatures.
Is an electronic signature legally binding?
Yes. Electronic signatures are legally recognized under the ESIGN Act (federal) and UETA (adopted by most states) as equivalent to handwritten signatures. Lex E-Sign records the signer's name, IP address, timestamp, and consent confirmation — all of which contribute to the audit trail.
How do I download a signed document?
From your Lex E-Sign dashboard, click the Download button next to any signed document. This opens a print-ready version with the document content, signer name, signature image or typed name, and a timestamp. Use your browser's Print → Save as PDF to save it.
Can I see the history of all signed documents?
Yes. Your Lex E-Sign dashboard shows all documents — pending and signed — with status badges and dates. Use the Signed filter tab to view only completed documents.
What happens if a signer tries to use the link after signing?
The link becomes inactive after signing. If someone opens a link for a document that has already been signed, they see an 'Already Signed' message and cannot submit again.
Account & Security
How do I change my login email or password?
Go to your Profile page and click 'Change Login Email / Password'. This opens Clerk's secure account management where you can update your credentials with email verification.
Is my data private?
Yes. Each attorney's data is completely isolated — matters, time entries, clients, and invoices are only visible to you (and your firm admin if you're on a firm plan). We use Supabase with row-level security and Clerk for authentication.
What happens if I cancel my firm plan?
Your account reverts to Free at the end of the billing period. Firm members will no longer have firm-plan access, and matters assigned to members will be unassigned. All data is retained.
